What is your top-ten song list? What was it when you were a kid? Is there any overlap?

View 575 Answers

Well, I'm pretty sure there weren't any overlaps. I got my first CD when I was seven and it was.. wait for it... Aqua. The next was the Spice Girls and I got hooked to them since - bought myself 2 CDs, 1 karaoke VCD, 1 tshirt, 1 pencil, 1 notebook and various other fangirly things. I was this young 8 year old raving on and on about how Sporty Spice was so cool (though now I think Posh was always the coolest). Everyone else liked Emma Bunton though.

Now, as in right now at this very moment (because favorite song lists never really stay permanent), my favorite songs are:

1. Am I Wry? No - Mew
2. We Looked Like Giants - Death Cab For Cutie
3. Night On Fire (Carlos D Remix) - VHS or Beta
4. Half Year Sun - The Promise Ring
5. A Nervous Tic Motion Of The Head To The Left - Andrew Bird
6. Crash Into Me - Dave Matthews Band
7. Heart - Stars
8. Elevator Love Letter - Stars
9. 156 - Mew
10. Sunlit & Ascending - The Appleseed Cast

I think the last time I did this may easily have been a year ago. I haven't changed at all, except I do think I've become more of an extreme ENTP.

Oh wow, there's 'government employee' under disfavored careers, and 'dictator' under favored careers. It sure looks like I knew myself better than I thought I did.

You only live once, and not for long either. Why then, I ask myself constantly, do I bother spending times doing things I don't want to do? Are there really things that have to be done? Does all the money really have to be made? What if I arrive and realize it's not where I want to be, and that there's no satisfaction to be derived?

On another note, when iTunes tells me that people are connected to my library, I always wonder who they are.

I am so digging this genius mix function that iTunes now has.

So I'm grounded (apparently because I don't love myself enough, or zi4 ai4, in my mother's words). But I go to BluJaz and meet Sabrina anyway because tomorrow's her birthday and I have to pass her her notebooks. Plus, I want to gain ground against the parents so I push their limits. I still leave earlier anyway and I reach home at slightly over ten.

Everybody's already sleeping and the house feels empty, like I'm alone.

It's puzzling why they demand me home when there's nothing much to come home to.

Last night was really ... whoa. So I hadn't memorized the lyrics for Black Horse & The Cherry Tree. Spent the whole morning of rehearsal reading lyrics off Tamps' mac and being decently pleased with my level of preparedness. Stupidly, it hadn't occurred to me that there was no way I was going to be performing with a macbook in front of me. So when it was time for me to sing the song, (after Drops of Jupiter - yes Ge we did that, and Kokwai's rendition of Stars) I realized that I had no impression of the lyrics beyond the first verse. In typical me-fashion, I decided I'd just whack, and perhaps miraculously the lyrics'd flow to me after the first verse.

But no, that didn't happen. So I blurted out "I forgot the lyrics!" and then I started making up my own lyrics that went like "So I don't know the lyrics for this part of the song but I'm still gonna just sing along" and you get the point. And then I did that for three quarters of the song and when it was time to go back to the chorus at the end, I botched up again and then I gave my bandmates i.e. nic+kokwai+young+ian+NAT (I kept giving Nat help-me eyes haha) save-me-looks and then nic mouthed "chorus chorus" and then I gave him the "omg i forgot what the chorus sounds like" face even though I highly doubt he managed to read that look. And so we looped the bit of the song I was singing and then when I finally remembered what the chorus sounded like I looked at them and then we went into the chorus and ended on time. And in the process of everything, I managed to get my very-very-very-supportive-classmates (thank you all, if any of you are reading this) to stand up and clap along. And I suppose I ought to be thankful everything went so well that even after the show, people asked me if that improv bit was staged. Thank you band and thank you classmates + seniors. >.<

Thank Heavens.

Oh and in other news, I now have a bottle of extracted, yet-to-be-sterilized teeth sitting on the floor of my room. I reckon I'll post a couple of pictures of it soon. It's really really really gross though (the liquid in the bottle is this gross opaque brown and the teeth have random white strands of goodness knows what, tissue? floating around them), but a very rare sight so I have to have to take a photo.

So today is return tea. I've piled on the helvetica for my presents. And I haven't memorized my lyrics. My guitar pickups are also spoilt. But that's alright because we're going to kick ass anyway.

I hope.

So I'm making a mixtape now.

And I need to actually watch my lectures. It's like I've been on holiday for the past half a week. On that note, Happy Hump Day! Love it when we cross the hump every week. Friday my band performs again; I'm hoping we don't screw up and sound bad. More updates soon!

Tracklist! )

What band are you dying to see live in concert that you've never seen before? Would you travel to a different city or state just to see them?

Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Strokes. Maybe Mew. Oh there are just too many.

#760: I love Saturdays

So yesterday morning was spent at the dental clinic, where I found out I had a cavity. What a travesty. It was pretty funny though, because I spent the visit talking to my dentist about our professors and lessons and etc. and then when she found my cavity she was like "oh you ah you have a cavity! It's on the buccal pit of your molar". I love my dentist; she's such an inspiring person, really.

And then, I spent the afternoon outside FEP, sitting at a stone table and sketching teeth for Morphology. (Say hi to the life of a dental student)

And then I met Sabrina to hang. Hung around Art Friend and random other places taking stupid photos of ourselves because our earlier plan to catch a movie got foiled by horrible movie timings and a box office cashier who asked me for my age when I was buying tickets for an R21 film.

Crashed Council's mooncake gathering thing, and then we left for BluJaz for this:

which was really good, by the way. Royce was performing with his band, which was pretty interesting. And DJ Ko Flow was the shit; he did some serious turntablism last night and it was really amazing. He did a collaboration with this bunch of people (The Lard Brothers + Garuda) and they did some hip hop jam thing which was something really different.

So anyway, I was browsing through my photos in a bid to clear my camera's memory card and I decided to pluck out a few photos from this year for chronicling's sake.

My papers for Biochemistry and Physiology are finally over and for now, I'm letting myself take a break from it all. Life so far has been pretty good.

MSTRKRFT next week! Can hardly wait.

"Today I was at the movies, on a date with a guy I discovered I really don't like. Seeing my disgust as he cracked gross jokes and asked me if I could pay for the tickets, the hot guy behind the counter charged me the kids price. He left me a note in my change that said, "ditch him and go to theatre 12". I did. Harry Potter 6 was playing, and a few minutes he came in with a giant box of Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans. Hello, soulmate. MLIA"

Wow that is just some crazy luck.
